Quin derives its name from "Cuinche", probably meaning the arbutus producing land. According to local folklore, there was an arbutus grove here in bygone days. Places of interest include S.t Finghin's Church, Quin Castle, Quin Abbey, Daingean Ui Bhigin Castle, Knappogue Castle, Ballykilty Manor and Dangan Breac.
