| Oranmore, like the alternative towns and villages close Galway, is fast becoming a dormitory town for the city. located on the eastern side of Galway Bay, it lies under the shadow of a revitalized Clanricarde Burke castle, that saw action in the Civil and Cromwellian wars of the seventeenth century. Opposite it, next to the the Galway road, lies a megalithic, or big stone tomb, of a type classed as a boulder dolmen, dating perhaps, to 2,000 B.C.
